Oceanic Art includes the styles, techniques and traditions of these cultures. It is characterized by its generally religious themes and the worship of ancestors, and by a magical-symbolic work and a stylization and schematization of geometric forms, sometimes reaching a simple sign.
Micronesia: formed by Palaos, Micronesia Federated States, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Guam, Wake Island, Caroline Islands and Northern Marianas Islands. There is no much farming terrain, so there aren’t many people. They are great sailors.

A huge part of Micronesian culture is its ties to the open ocean. Kelsey Hansen, Group Tours and Education Coordinator at MOAS shows us an example of a stick chart created by the Marshallese to navigate the ocean. To learn more, come explore the exhibit: Arts and Culture of Micronesia.
An exhibit showcasing many cultural and artistic relics from Micronesia. Arts and Culture of Micronesia featuring many diverse objects and traditional crafts from the personal collection of Barbara Wavell. Model-size canoes used for open ocean voyages, traditional baskets and bowls, storyboards depicting ancient tales, and numerous objects unique to these tiny islands will be on display through late February 16, 2020.

Ms. Barbara Wavell “Island Objects: Art and Adaptation in Micronesia”
Ms. Barbara Wavell‘s presentation “Island Objects: Art and Adaptation in Micronesia” at the Polasek Museum, Florida, United States of America, on January 9, 2018. Her presentation was about the current exhibition of her private collection of Micronesian art at the museum (December 12, 2017-April 15, 2018), and was followed with a personal gallery walk-thru of the exhibit. Anthropologist, Ms. Wavell has been researching and collecting art and artifacts from Micronesia since 1975. These objects on the exhibition showcase traditional culture and illustrate the ways it has adapted to external societal forces through periods of Spanish, German, Japanese, and American occupation. We would like to thank Mr. Tom Olsen for filming the presentation, Mr. Yuji Inoue (Pasifika Renaissance) for editing ...
